Counselling for members of 2s/LGBTQ+ communities

• Blackbird always has counsellors available who are members of 2S/LGBTQ+ communities themselves.

• Blackbird works from a perspective that gender and sexual identity can be better understood as spheres rather than traditional views of a simple two dimensional continuum or set of limited categories / labels. We always make space for the fact that gender and sexual identities might or might not evolve or change for a given individual at different times.

• We believe strongly in gender affirming approaches and we do not believe that binary gender should be an assumed aspiration for anyone, cis or trans. We embrace where you are at and aim to support your personally defined journey.

• Blackbird only hires counsellors who demonstrate a fundamental belief in individual rights to self-determination in defining one's own gender and sexuality, including rights to embrace or reject labels.

• We strive for and advocate for an inclusive world that treats members of 2S/LGBTQ+ communities as full human beings with equal / equitable rights and fundamental protections against discrimination and stigma in any form.

• We believe all of our practitioners are competent to practice with members of 2S/LGBTQ+ communities, but you are welcome to call, text, or email us if you would like to be connected to a counsellor who matches any specific individual needs.
