Hello and welcome.
My name is Sam. I am a Registered Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from University of British Columbia.
Many of us find ourselves feeling stuck or overwhelmed. And so many people struggle with their concerns alone, whether they are in fact experiencing isolation or whether they are surrounded by other people. Some worry they might burden others, some fear what others might think, and some struggle to believe they are worthy or deserving of support. As a counsellor and social worker, I believe we all need substantial supports in our lives. Whether the issues you're facing feel small or insurmountable, I strive to offer a space where you can share your experiences without feeling judged or ashamed.
Many people feel stuck in patterns that feel internally problematic without understanding the root causes. With decades of experience in the helping profession, I am well versed in the questions and supportive guidance needed to find these answers and move forward in a healing journey. I work from an anti-oppressive and social justice minded lens, using a variety of modalities including Narrative Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). ART is a form of therapy that uses eye movements and visual reprocessing to help alleviate trauma and anxiety symptoms. It is different from but related to EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and often requires only one session.
Some of my focuses include trans affirming practice / working with 2SLGBTQ+ community members, Seniors, substance use, anxiety, depression, trauma, suicidal thoughts, psychosis, chronic illness, men (or anyone) burdened by anger, people who have been labelled "treatment resistant".
I offer direct billing to many third party insurance providers, extended health plans, Métis Nation BC, CVAP, BCEHS, WorkSafeBC, WorkBC, ICBC, Veterans Affairs, Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), Canadian Armed Forces.
On a personal note, I am passionate about cycling, skiing, and spending time outdoors. I am a pet parent and an avid cook of vegan and vegetarian food.
I believe it is important to acknowledge that I am a settler who lives on the stolen homelands of the people of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ / Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. I believe in working to dispel myths, promote equity, and fight injustice.

Welcome, and congratulations on taking a step towards caring for yourself.
I have experience working with people of all ages; I work with children, youth and adults. I have previous experience working in the Downtown Eastside with people who were experiencing mental health and addiction. I also have experience working with adolescents with additional needs with a focus on those with profound concurrent disabilities, cognitive delays, and traumatic brain injuries. I especially enjoy working with autistic people and those who love and want to support them. I currently work in another role with youth during the day, and provide counselling services on evenings and weekends.
It can be difficult to see a clear path from where you are to where you want to be. I provide an open, non-judgmental space to help process painful emotions and prioritize what is most important to you. I help you find small, approachable things to help you in the meantime while you work towards your larger goals.
I have two bachelor’s degrees - one in history and the other in education. I have a teaching certificate and a valid teaching licence. I also have a post-graduate certificate in special education, and a master’s degree in counselling with a specialization in school counselling. I am a student member of the BCACC and am awaiting my Registered Clinical Counsellor designation.

Welcome! My name is Ellen.
I am a Registered Social Worker with a graduate certificate in complex trauma, and I am currently a master’s candidate in counselling psychology. I have over 10 years of experience in social service-related work, including with people involved in the criminal legal system and the mental health system. I have worked with diverse groups of clients who have had experiences with trauma, mental health, mood, substance misuse, and complex family relationships. I have extensive understanding of the child protection system and mandated psychiatric services.
I will work with you through a holistic lens with a focus on an individual's search for meaning, purpose, and authentic self expression. I offer a supportive and empathetic space to share your experiences and current challenges. Together, we can navigate what you are looking for out of counselling, your goals, and the best way to get you there. I use a variety of frameworks including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Narrative therapy.
I am an ally with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and work to support Indigenous communities in my practice. I work with youth, individuals, couples, and families. I understand that counselling can be a scary and vulnerable process and want it to be as safe, productive, and healing as possible.
On a personal front, I am a cisgender female born in the prairies and have lived in Vancouver and Vancouver Island for the past 20 years. I have a one-year-old son and love being in nature, travelling, and watching soapy TV.

Hi, I am Karina Crow, Founder of Blackbird Counselling and Wellness.
I am a Registered Social Worker and have two decades of front-line and clinical practice in mental health and addictions. I work from an integrated approach, using different types of counselling modalities to personalize your sessions. I support diversity and welcome people who identify as counter-culturalists, nonconformists, creatives, musicians, and people exploring their meaning in the world. I am an ally with marginalized people and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. I have worked as a front-line worker for many years with multiple non-profits in the Downtown East Side of Vancouver, in Forensic Social Work, Public Health and I currently work in private practice.
I specialize in working with trauma (PTSD, CPTSD), complex family relationships, intergenerational trauma, substance use concerns, and general mental health, such as anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. I work from a place to understand you as a whole person, your physical and mental health are connected and I honor this in our counselling sessions. It is of the most importance to me that you feel heard and understood, I will never judge your experience, and will provide a safe environment to talk about anything you choose.
I offer a specialized treatment - Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). It is one of my favorite modalities to use, as it is effective and powerful. I often can take one to three sessions of ART to reprogram stressful emotions, memories and images and move to a place where these experiences no longer trigger strong physical or emotional reactions.
