Who we are and what we offer

Blackbird Counselling and Wellness offers a different experience of counselling. We are trained to treat the whole person, your experiences, lifestyle, and wellness. We work with people from all walks of life.

We support children, youth, adults, families, and seniors. We are a multicultural clinic with bipoc, queer, and Indigenous counsellors. We ally with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, neurodivergent folk, and practice gender affirming care.

We specialize in working with trauma, complex family issues, grief and loss, anger, substance use, general mental health concerns, psychosis, medical trauma, discrimination, parenting, relationships, and non-conformist relationships.

We practice from an evidence-based and integrative approach. We customize counselling services to fit your needs. We always strive to be non-judgmental and to create a safe trauma-informed space. We are allies in supporting diversity and welcome people who identify as counter-culturalists, nonconformists, creatives, artists, musicians, and those who are exploring their meaning in the world.

We have counsellors available for in-person sessions in: Cloverdale, Surrey, Port Coquitlam, Equine Assisted Therapy in Langley, and Walk-And-Talk Sessions in Port Moody. We also offer online virtual sessions across BC.

Blackbird Counselling and Wellness is proudly Métis and Woman owned and operated. We work to create and support community through respect, reciprocity, healing, and space for personal expression.

Payments

Payments for all counselling services are due at the end of the session and can be made using Interac e-transfer payments to payments@blackbirdcounsellingandwellness.ca

Payments can also be made before the session if you prefer. We also accept Visa, Mastercard, and Interac debit payments. Upon payment, an official receipt will be issued from Blackbird Counselling and Wellness.

Insurance Policy

Blackbird Counselling and Wellness direct bills to certain extended benefits and insurance companies. We also bill to FNHA (First Nations Health Authority), Métis Nation BC, WorkSafeBC, WorkBC, CVAP (Crime Victim Assistance Program), BCEHS (British Columbia Emergency Health Services), BC Fire Fighters, MCFD (Ministry of Children and Family Development), MCFD Autism Funding Unit, Variety of Hearts Foundation, Veterans Affairs Canada, Interim Federal Health Plan (IFHP), and Canadian Armed Forces. Please confirm your eligibility directly through these organizations, or email us about this if you require assistance.

It is important to note that each insurance plan may offer different levels of coverage for counselling sessions. The coverage may also vary based on the education credentials of the practitioner. If you plan to use insurance to cover the cost of your sessions, please contact your insurance provider before your first session to confirm what your plan covers. Education credentials you might see on our counsellors' profiles include Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), Registered Social Worker with a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW, RSW), Registered Social Worker with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW, RSW), or Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). Some of our student counsellors are Registered Social Workers with a BSW, and these lower cost sessions may still be covered under certain plans.

Third party insurance providers that might cover appointments with us include Beneva / SSQ, Canada Life / Great-West Life, ClaimSecure, Desjardins, Equitable Life of Canada, First Canadian Health, Green Shield Canada, iA Financial Group, Johnson, Johnston Group, Manulife, Maximum Benefit, Medavie Blue Cross, Pacific Blue Cross, and SunLife. Manulife, Canada Life, ClaimSecure, and Equitable Life can generally be billed directly by us at the time of appointment, so as to avoid you needing to submit receipts for reimbursement.

Cancellation Policy

If you must cancel or reschedule an appointment with Blackbird Counselling and Wellness, please provide us with 24 hour advanced notice. Otherwise the full rate will still apply.

Blackbird Counselling and Wellness has multiple locations to provide in-person counseling services: Cloverdale, Surrey, Vancouver, Port Coquitlam, Equine Assisted Therapy in Langley, and Walk-And-Talk Therapy in Port Moody. See our Contact section for details.
